Wushu matches at Chinese City Games wrapped up ( 2003-10-27 11:02) (Xinhua)
The younger players have shown their talents during the matches even though
more practice is needed to polish their skills, said Wang Xiaolin, a senior
official in charge of Wushu or Martial Arts with the General Administration of
Sport (GAS), who is here to monitor the matches of Wushu of the ongoing 5th
Chinese City Games.
The matches comprising free combat and route as two major categories were
concluded Sunday night. The Zhengzhou city has turned out to be the biggest
winner with three gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals. Chengdu and
Hangzhou city have two titles and Shenyang, Shenzhen, Lanzhou have one each.
Nearly 190 athletes, mainly aged between 15 to 17, from some 26 cities
participated in the Wushu matches beginning on October 18 to compete for 10
golds. Many of the players were very good even though they sometimes seemed
unavoidably premature, but they would gain experience through practice and get
ready for international matches in future, said Wang.
