Zheng Yongji and Li Huiquan were expelled from the 5th Chinese City Games after they tested positive for EPO in a random test, a top Chinese anti-doping official said Saturday. Shi Kangcheng, director of Anti-Doping Office under the State General Administration of Sports, told Xinhua that the samples from the two athletes showed traces for EPO in both urine and blood tests. "The tests were conducted on October 21 and 22 respectively," said Shi. "And the A samples have returned positive results for EPO." "According to the rules, they are expelled from the games and face further punishment," said the anti-doping expert. Zheng Yongji from Lanzhou finished second in group qualification of men's 3000m steeplechase while Li Huiquan, 18, topped his group in men's 800 meters qualification Saturday morning. Shi reiterated China's "three stricts" policy against doping, namely strict on prohibiting the use of drugs, strict on doping tests and strict on punishing the offenders. At the 4th Chinese City Games four years ago, three swimmers were disqualified after testing positive for EPO.
