Lunch boxes from home popular again ( 2003-10-24 17:13) (China Daily)
Bringing boxed lunches to the workplace has become popular again in Guangzhou - not to save money but for health reasons, reports Yangcheng Evening News. Xiao Ling started taking her lunch box to the office after she put on five kilograms by eating out every day. In her determination to get and stay slim, she started preparing healthy recipes she found in magazines and stopped going out to restaurants at lunchtime. Soon, all of her female co-workers followed suit, Xiao Ling said. Liu, a senior-level manager, has to avoid greasy foods on his doctor's advice. "At first, I was afraid my colleagues would laugh at me. But they actually envied me for being able to eat home-made food," he said. Cai, an account manager for an advertising firm, said he has to eat "whenever I have time" because of his hectic schedule - a requirement best filled by lunch boxes.
