Overdue power bills total 4.269b yuan

Guangdong Power Supply Company
is owed 4.269 billion yuan (US$514.3 million) in power bills, including 3.137
billion yuan (US$377.9 million) accrued this year, reports Guangzhou Daily.
The industrial sector accounts for 35 per cent of the overdue bills, compared
to 8 per cent owed by residential customers.
Some large enterprises have no intention of paying their power bills - with
the backing of their local governments. Payment collection efforts are often met
with excuses such as, "Social order will be affected if this enterprise is
driven to bankruptcy."
The power company has assembled a task force to recover the overdue bills
through legal means.
