Airport expansion to start in March

Construction to expand Beijing
Capital International Airport is slated to begin March 28, reports Beijing Youth
Daily.
The expansion project mainly comprises the construction of a 3,800-metre-long
runway and Aviation Building No 3, which will cover 350,000 square metres.
Other supporting facilities, including three highways and one high-speed rail
line, will also be constructed.
The 16.5-billion-yuan (US$1.98 billion) project is scheduled to be completed
by the end of 2007 and put into operation in 2008.
The enhanced airport will be able to handle 60 million passengers a day by
the year 2015, according to the report.
