The Galanz group is to invest 2 billion yuan (US$240m) to establish the world's biggest air conditioner plant in the city of Zhongshan, south China's Guangdong Province.

The Galanz (Zhongshan) Electrical Apparatus Co. Ltd. is expected to produce 12 million air conditioners in three to five years, with annual output value reaching 3 billion to 5 billion yuan (US$361m).

First phase construction work on the company is expected to be finished in 2004, with annual output reaching 3 million air conditioners.

Galanz is the world's leading microwave oven producer with annual output reaching 16 million sets.

Galanz started in 2000 to produce air conditioners. It sold 400, 000 air conditioners in China in 2001. The number of air conditioners it exported in 2002 was 17 times the figure in 2001.
