Chinese zodiac bronzes on display ( 2003-10-21 11:34) (China Daily)
Four of 12 animal head bronzes stolen by the English and French armies 143
years ago are now on display at the Winter Palace, reports Beijing Daily.
The free exhibition, which opened on Saturday and will run until October 26,
coincides with the anniversary of the Winter Palace being plundered by foreign
intruders on October 18, 1860.
The four bronze heads, - a pig, an ox, a tiger and a rat -were reacquired by
the China Poly Art Museum. Three of the other eight bronzes are still overseas,
but the whereabouts of the remaining five are unknown, according to the
report.
