French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero outlasted Wimbledon champion Roger Federer 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 Saturday to reach the Madrid Masters final.

Ferrero, a Spaniard ranked No. 1, will play Nicolas Massu on Sunday. Massu beat Younes El Aynaoui 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Ferrero lost just one point in his first three service games while breaking Federer to go ahead 3-2 before a partisan crowd of 9,400 that included Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar.

Federer won the second set by breaking Ferrero in the last game.

 
In the third set, Ferrero broke for a 3-2 lead with two beautiful service returns beyond Federer's reach.
