Anti-terrorism cooperation not to change APEC nature ( 2003-10-17 17:17) (Xinhua)
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation is an economic forum, and the
cooperation on fighting terrorism will not change such a nature, Chinese Foreign
Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Thursday.
The nature of APEC was a consensus reached by various parties at the
beginning of the APEC's founding, she said at a regular press conference. As the
international situation developed, its members also exchanged views on
anti-terrorism and regional security.
During the upcoming APEC meeting in Bangkok, the United States would give a
document of "Bangkok goals". China held the view that that "Bangkok goals"
comprises of some positive factors, and China would participate in the
discussion on relevant documents in the principle of benefiting regional
security and stability, Zhang said.
According to the spokeswoman, Chinese President Hu Jintao would attend the
11th APEC Economic Leaders' Informal Meeting in Bangkok from Oct. 20 to 21,
meeting with the leaders of the United States, Russia, the Republic of Korea,
Chile, Mexico and other nations.
