'Shell mountain' hints at history ( 2003-10-17 15:50) (China Daily)
A "shell mountain" has been discovered in Qaidam Basin in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The mountain is almost entirely covered by the shell-like fossils, which sparkle in bright sunlight. According to experts, the phenomenon is the result of long-time weathering, making the "shell mountain" a significant find expected to reveal more about Qaidam Basin's geological history.
