( 2003-10-17 15:47) (China Daily)

Zhang Linsheng, former head of the traffic police in Guangzhou, has been sentenced to death for accepting 4,899,722 yuan (US$590,328) in bribes, reports Xinhua.

Zhang granted a simulated driving project to Guangzhou Paili Company in 1994. In return, his wife received 40 per cent of the company's shares.

He was also found to be sharing profits with the advertising company given the sole right to advertise on traffic-related facilities. Zhang's deputy, Su Jianle, has also been convicted of taking bribes.
