Africa expects China's continuous support ( 2003-10-16 21:02) (Agencies)
The African Development Bank (ADB) hopes China will continue to support Africa's development, said ADB President Omar Kabbaj here. Kabbaj spoke in an interview Wednesday before the Sino-African Seminar on Economic Reform and Development Strategies held between Oct. 16 and 17. Kabbaj said that the ADB and China, as an important member of the ADB group, had good cooperation, he said. China had been supporting Africa since it joined the African Development Fund in 1985, he said. The ADB expected China to continue cooperation and support Africa's construction and development as always. Kabbaj said he believed the seminar would promote Sino-African relations. The bank, established in 1964, included 53 members from Africa and 24, including China, from other continents. The ADB's mission focused on poverty alleviation and promoting economic development in Africa. The ADB was concerned with such factors as agriculture, the social sectors of education and health, regional integration and transport, said Kabbaj. The ADB, a multinational development bank, has its headquarters in Abidjan, capital of Cote d'Ivoire, and is dedicated to combating poverty and improving the living standard of African people.
