-- said Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan when talking to China's first astronaut Yang Liwei on board of Shenzhou-5 at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (Beijing time) via live communication systems.

"I feel very good in space, and it looks extremely splendid around here. Dear son, I caught the sight of our beautiful home ( the Earth) and recorded all what I've seen here."

-- said Yang Liwei when calling his wife and son from space at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday (Beijing Time).

"Astronaut, could you see the Great Wall there?"

-- asked an internet surfer "Chuanhaozi" on Xinhua Forum at Xinhuanet.com, website of Xinhua News Agency, which launched a program asking internet users to provide words they most want to say to Yang Liwei.

"Is there really a human being in that flame shooting thing? I used to believe only the souls of nobles could fly to the sky after they pass away. Science is really marvelous. I hope our first man in space will return safely. I pray for him."

-- said a 64-year-old Tibetan Namgyai in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

"This marks a great success of the Chinese scientific and technological expertise and today should be a grand event for all Chinese people."

-- Visiting Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Tabachnik expressed congratulations on China's launch of its first manned spacecraft, Shenzhou-5, here Wednesday.

"China becomes the third country to send human beings into space, demonstrating the reliability of its aerospace technology. This mission could open up to a new era of wider cooperation in the world space community."
