Relationships OK, little communication
( 2003-10-15 15:04) (China Daily)

Most teenagers say their relationships with their parents are "OK", but up to 40 per cent spend barely 15 minutes a day talking to their fathers and mothers, according to a survey conducted by the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Youth Research Institute.

About 550 middle-school students between 14 and 16 responded to the questionnaire on parent-child relationships, reports New Express News.

Eighty-eight per cent said they were satisfied with their relationships with their fathers, while 93 per cent got along well with their mothers.

However, the survey indicated an obvious lack of communication between teenagers and their parents.

Some 44 per cent ticked the minimum option - less than 15 minutes - when asked how much time they spend talking with their fathers daily, compared to 39 per cent who spent the same amount of time conversing with their mothers.

About 70 per cent said they would not voluntarily share their feelings with their parents.
