Fisherman sets caught beluga free ( 2003-10-15 14:48) (China Daily)
A beluga caught by a fisherman near Changxing Island was returned to the sea
Sunday morning, Jiefang Daily reports.
Guo caught the strange-looking fish, a kind of sturgeon weighing about 50
kilograms, early Sunday morning and planned to sell it for a good price. But
some other fishermen recognized the beluga as a endangered species and reported
Guo to the border police.
Guo was persuaded to release the beluga, which he had placed in a bathtub,
back to the sea.
Police had to borrow a fishing boat to lead the beluga into deeper water as
it could not quite make its own way.
