Realtor swindles with VD claim
( 2003-10-15 14:48) (China Daily)

A property agent bilked a client out of 15,000 yuan (US$1,800) on the grounds that she infected him with a venereal disease, Shanghai Morning Post reports.

Cheng, a 43-year-old divorcee, listed her apartment for sale with Tan's company this May.

Tan, 37, could tell he had made a very good impression on Cheng. He visited Cheng's apartment a few days later and won her sympathy by telling her the story of his divorce.

The two had sex on June 1. One week after that, Tan asked Cheng for 50,000 yuan (US$6,040), claiming that she had given him a venereal disease.

Cheng refused at first, saying that she did not make a habit of engaging in casual sex and did not believe she was the culprit. But on June 13, Tan came to her home again, forcing Cheng to give him 15,000 yuan.

Cheng reported the incident to police who arrested Tan. Neither Cheng or Tan had the disease, according to a medical examination.A 32-year-old Beijing farmer is being sued for raising funds of more than 31 million yuan (US$3.73 million) by misleading his lenders, reports Beijing Youth Daily.

In 1998, Niu Yongshun started a tourism business with most of the start money borrowed from friends and relatives at a high interest rate of 20 per cent.

When his business failed to take off, he was unable to pay back the money, so he began using the high interest rates as bait to borrow more money from others to cover the old debts.

Before the lenders sued him, Niu had borrowed money from more than 50 friends and relatives and also forged contracts in a bid to swindle more capital.
