1.2-ton jeep drives over paper bridge ( 2003-10-15 14:39) (China Daily)
Students from the Beijing-based Tsinghua University's Engineering Department
carried off a "mission impossible" by erecting a "paper" bridge capable of
supporting a 1.2-ton jeep, reports Beijing Morning Post.
The jeep crossed the unique structure in two minutes.
Made from newspapers with a cumulative weight of two tons and an emulsifying
solution, the paper bridge measured six metres long and two metres wide.
More than 10 students designed the bridge based on mechanics theories learned
in their classes and then constructed it themselves.
The maximum load-bearing capacity of their paper bridge is two
tons.
