NBA - Hawks pull away from Timberwolves 98-86 ( 2003-10-14 14:44) (Agencies)
Obinna Ekezie scored eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 98-86 exhibition victory Monday night over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Dion Glover and Ekezie hit consecutive baskets to open the final period and put the Hawks up 75-72. Minnesota never led again, falling behind 91-80 after Atlanta's Jason Terry hit a pair of free throws with 4:42 left.
Kevin Garnett scored 10 of his 17 points in the third quarter to give the Timberwolves a 72-71 lead entering the fourth.
Minnesota ¡ª playing without Wally Szczerbiak, Latrell Sprewell and Michael Olowokandi ¡ª lost starting guard Troy Hudson midway through the third quarter when he collided with Atlanta's Stephen Jackson and hit his head on the floor.
Minnesota's Fred Hoiberg also left the game after being kicked in the heal.
Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said Hudson was fine but Hoiberg would have to be evaluated Tuesday.
Jackson led the Hawks with 21 points. Terry and Lee Nailon finished with 14 apiece for Atlanta, and Glover had 11.
Kirk Penny had 12 points, and Gary Trent and Sam Cassell finished with 11 each for Minnesota.
