Heavy fine for weighted buy ( 2003-10-14 14:33) (China Daily)
A man selling dried sea horses has been fined for secreting small steel balls
in the fish, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine, to increase their
weight, Shanghai Morning Post reports.
A customer from abroad bought 1,900 yuan (US$228) worth of dried sea horses
from a market in Yuyuan Garden during a tour of the city in April.
After returning to his home in Norway, he discovered steel ball bearings in
the necks of each of the sea horses.
When he visited Shanghai again during the recent National Day holiday, he
complained to the local Industrial and Commercial Administration Office.
The seller was ordered to return the 1,900 yuan to his victim plus pay him
another 1,900 yuan as compensation.
