Lighter factory blast in Guangxi claims 10 lives
( 2003-10-10 00:40) (Xinhua)

A blast at a lighter-making workshop at 11:30 a.m. Friday in a border city at the southwestern tip of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south China, has left 10 people dead.

The explosion in Pingxiang city, which borders on Vietnam to the west, caused a fire which has since burned out.

The blast stems from illegal operation of the lighter factory, according to a preliminary confirmation of the regional administration for supervision of industrial safety.

Officials in relevant departments have rushed to the site to investigate further into the cause of the accident.
