Woman loses 30,000 yuan in family crisis ( 2003-10-10 14:49) (China Daily)
A woman in a love crisis was cheated out of 30,000 yuan (US$3,610) by a fortuneteller, reports Beijing Youth Daily. Huang was introduced to Ma Haifu by one of her friends, when she was facing a crisis in her relationship with her husband. Huang was told that Ma seldom tells fortunes to ordinary people; and if he did, he charges 10,000 yuan (US$1,200) for each person. Huang started believing in Ma when he made some accurate observations when they first met; and was eager to seek a solution. Ma, initially appearing reluctant, finally relented but said he would give her a talisman to avoid mishaps only if she paid another 20,000 yuan (US$2,400). Huang reported to police after she realized that Ma was a swindler. The fortuneteller has been caught; and admitted that he had only read two books about fortune-telling before he started the business.
