Premier: China will do more to facilitate trade with US ( 2003-10-09 23:36) (Xinhua)
China has done a lot to implement its commitments to the World Trade Organization and will do more and better to facilitate trade and economic cooperation with the United States, Premier Wen Jiabao said Thursday. Wen made the remarks while meeting with George Bush, former president of the United States, saying trade and economic cooperation is the key component and foundation of Sino-US ties, which have brought about practical benefit to the two peoples. The overall situation of Sino-US relations is good, Wen said, noting that leaders of the two countries have stressed handling bilateral ties from a long-term perspective and from a strategic point of view. China and the United States are enjoying increasingly close cooperation on trade and economic issues, and on major international and regional problems, Wen added. The sound development of Sino-US relations caters to the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is conducive to maintaining world peace, stability and development, Wen said. Wen also briefed Bush on China's current economic circumstances and its policy on the exchange rates of RMB yuan. Bush said that the US-China relationship is the most important bilateral tie for both the United States and China. He said he was dedicated to the development of US-China ties and will make more efforts to push forward US-China ties.
