Man held for climbing highrise
( 2003-10-09 13:21) (China Daily)

A 27-year-old man is being held by the police for boldly climbing to the top of the 88-floor Jinmao Tower without using any protective device, Shanghai Youth Daily reports.

Wang Huan started his ascent at around 4 pm on October 7 and climbed to the top 40 minutes later.

When a security guard of the building noticed him, he had already climbed seven floors.

Failing to persuade Wang to come down, the guard called the police.

When the police got Wang at the top of the building, the first sentence he said was: "I was much slow this time and I can climb much faster, indeed." This was the fourth time the building has been sneakily climbed.

Due to security and safety concerns, the tower has already put up a sign warning people not to climb it, but risk-loving people are still defying the instructions.
