Boy, 5, sensitive to sound of numbers ( 2003-10-09 13:18) (China Daily) A five-year-old boy is
astonishing people by telling a telephone number by the sound of dialling - and
a reporter from Beijing Star Daily witnessed He Nan's amazing capability on
Tuesday.
The reporter dialled several numbers with a land-line set and the boy was
able to read out the numbers instantly and correctly.
When the reporter switched to two different mobile phones, He Nan could still
reel off the numbers without fail.
He Nan's mother said they noticed He's unusual sensitivity to sound when he
was three years old. And his parents have applied for an entry in the Guinness
Book of World Records.
Shu Zechi, deputy dean of the China Musician Association, explains that
children aged three to seven years are extremely sensitive to pitch.
Once He Nan remembers the relation between pitches and keys, he can tell the
number by the dialling sound.
