With over a million people of Zhejiang origin residing in 117 countries and regions throughout the world, with the great majority in Western Europe and North America, Zhejiang is widely known as a hometown of overseas Chinese.

At present, the province maintains close ties with overseas Chinese societies in more than 60 countries and regions.

Since 1990, the province has hosted a get-together for overseas Chinese of Zhejiang origin every year. In 2001, a party was held in New York, attended by more than 260 distinguished figures and heads of overseas Chinese societies from 26 countries and regions.

Overseas Chinese of Zhejiang origin have not only made remarkable contributions to the construction of the countries they reside in, but also done their special share for the economic and social development of Zhejiang Province.

A large number of overseas Chinese have invested in Zhejiang. Now ten development parks have been launched in the province for returned students from overseas, providing favorable conditions for them to develop their career in Zhejiang.
