Man-made waves on 'golden island' ( 2003-10-08 14:53) (China Daily)
Shanghai is planning to build a 10-kilometre-long "golden island" with
beaches in Fengxian District, Xinhua News Agency reports.
Natural waves will be generated on the beaches of the 30-square-kilometre
island so that people can surf.
As the mud content of the sea water is high, two reservoirs will be
constructed to treat the water, which will be recycled every day when the tides
ebb.
The sand for the beaches will be delivered from Hainan Province and other
parts of the country.
Construction will start around 2005 and is expected to be completed in
2007.
