Shaanxi reports rapid foreign trade growth ( 2003-10-04 10:24) (Xinhua) Northwest China's Shaanxi
Province witnessed rapid growth in foreign trade in the first eight months of
this year, according to statistics from Xi'an City customs.
During the period, the aggregate value of the province's foreign trade hit
1.81 billion US dollars, including 1.09 billion US dollars for exports and 720
million US dollars for imports, respective year-on-year increases of 26.9, 27.3
and 26.2 percent.
Yang Yongshan, general statistician of the provincial statistics bureau, said
despite the effects of the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
early this year and the severe floods in August, Shaanxi's economy has
maintained fast and healthy growth, especially in the pharmaceutical and
chemical industries.
As long as the government maintains the trend, Shaanxi will realize the
target economic growth of 10 percent this year, said Yang.
