China's auto output to top 4m in 2003

Experts have forecast that over 4 million vehicles will be produced in China this year.

China produced 2.728 million motor vehicles in the first eight months this year, up 36 percent over the same period of last year. China produced 3.25 million motor vehicles last year.

China registered sales of 2.723 million motor vehicles in the eight-month period, 30.7 percent higher than the figure for last year's corresponding period.

Sales of sedan cars accounted for 42.5 percent of total auto sales in the first eight months.

The number of private cars has been rapidly rising in recent years as China's economy maintained rapid growth and the income of Chinese people continued to increase. A city of over 13 million, the national capital Beijing has more than 2 million private cars.
