Shanxi coal exports surge 23.51 percent ( 2003-10-03 10:19) (Xinhua) The northern province of
Shanxi, China's leading coal producer, exported 10.94 million tons of coal in
the first eight months this year, a rise of 23.51 percent on a yearly basis.
According to Taiyuan Customs, the money involved totaled 309.97 million US
dollars, up 15.65 percent over the same period of 2002.
Shanxi's coal exports accounted for 18 percent of the country's total.
Customs statistics show that the province's coke exports for the eight-month
period surged 18.61 percent to hit 4.7 million tons. The money involved reached
510.05 million US dollars, a rise of 92.68 percent year on year.
Shanxi's coke exports accounted for 44.38 percent of China's total for the
same period, according to Taiyuan Customs.
