Top candidate falls 5 millimetres short ( 2003-09-26 14:38) (China Daily)
A college graduate who finished as the No 1 candidate in the civil servant
recruitment test in Yiyang, Hunan Province, has lost the job because he is five
millimetres short of the height requirement, reports Hunan Oriental News.
Fan Siping, 25, graduated from Hunan Agricultural University in 2000. He
participated in July's civil servant recruitment in his hometown of Yiyang. Fan
ranked fourth on the written test and first in the interview portion.
But when his height was measured at 1.595 metres in the physical examination
on August 9, he was rejected for not meeting the minimum required height of 1.60
metres.
"I have always been measured at more than 1.60 metres in the past, but this
time the bar was pressed down hard on my head so I measured much less," said
Fan.
He complained that the recruiters were cruel to be quite so strict over such
a small discrepancy.
