A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for
increased awareness of the importance of making government activities
transparent and protection of the fundamental interests of the overwhelming
majority of the people.
Wu Guanzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee
Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline
Inspection, made the call Thursday at a national teleconference on promoting the
transparency of government work.
In his key-note speech, Wu stressed that transparency was a concrete symbol
of the important thought of Three Represents which says the CPC always
represents the most advanced productivity and culture in China as well as the
interests of the overwhelmingly majority of the people.
It was necessary and realistic for developing socialist democracy and
political civilization, and was necessary for the control and supervision of the
use of administrative powers, so as to prevent and control corruption, he said.
Wu asked governments at various levels to make concrete efforts to push
forward the work of enabling the public to know more about government affairs.
The meeting was presided over by He Yong, a member of the CPC Central
Committee Secretariat and deputy secretary of the Central Commission for
Discipline Inspection.
