Livestock rustlers who "mistakenly" ate a valuable breed of goat worth 30,000
yuan (US$3,625) have been captured by police, reports Xinhua.
The Boer goat is an expensive breed renowned for its high quality meat.
Originally bred in Africa, it was popularized by the Dutch.
And many Chinese farmers raise Boer goats hoping to earn their fortunes.
But from May to August, 28 Boer goats were stolen from six breeding farms in
Dongying, Shandong Province, at a combined loss of 150,000 yuan (US$18,122).
The thieves were eventually captured by police and all of the stolen
livestock returned, expect one animal worth 30,000 yuan that was already eaten
because it was mistaken for a common goat, according to the
rustlers.
