Training to raise traffic awareness ( 2003-09-25 14:28) (China Daily)
Some 2,500 "traffic assistants" are now working at many road crossings after
tough training in traffic regulations, www.eastday.com reports.
Local traffic police announced that traffic flows at the city's 60 major
crossings have increased to an average of 17,198 vehicles an hour, compared with
15,456 vehicles an hour only three months ago. In June, police launched a
three-month campaign to raise local residents' awareness of traffic violations
and thereby achieve a smoother traffic flow.
Over the past three months, nearly 4.7 million traffic violators, mainly
cyclists and pedestrians, have been reprimanded.
