'Unidentified' dogs face death ( 2003-09-23 13:39) (China Daily)
Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, is implementing a regulation
requiring all dog owners in the city to attach special identifying items to
their animals' collars before taking them outside for a walk, reports Huashang
Morning Post.
From October 10 to November 10, the police bureau will hand out the free tags
to all owners of registered dogs in six different districts, five of which are
downtown, while the other is a suburb.
The items, colour-coded for each district, include a heart-shaped frame for a
photo of the dog to be worn on its collar and the dog's registration code, which
can help police locate its owner quickly. The special tags are also reflective,
allowing them to be seen by cars and passers-by at night.
Dogs found on the streets without the identifying items will be impounded and
killed, the authority warned.
