18 young men enter nursing programme ( 2003-09-19 14:31) (China Daily)
Chinese nurses, by tradition, have always been young women. But Nanjing
Medical University is about to change the patient care landscape, now that 18
male students have enrolled in the school's nursing programme, reports Modern
Express.
From 1985 to 1989, the nursing department recruited a few young men before
male enrolment dropped off completely. But as the demand for high quality nurses
grows and the special role male nurses can play becomes more apparent, the
university has decided to resume recruitment.
The 18 newly enrolled male students, who come from many different provinces,
all said they did not regret choosing nursing as a major, citing its great
professional prospects.
