Zhang Liangwu has been sentenced to death for murdering a woman less than five years after he was released from an 18-year prison sentence for rape and robbery, reports Shanghai Youth Daily.

When Zhang tried to molest a woman in a remote place in Baoshan on a January evening this year, she recoiled and scolded him fiercely.

Zhang then brandished a fruit knife and threatened the woman who screamed loudly for help.

The agitated Zhang then began stabbing the woman erratically.

She later died of excessive blood loss.
