Pond owner sells dumped truck's fish ( 2003-09-15 17:10) (China Daily)
A farmer who refused to return a fish-filled truck that plunged into his pond
in a traffic accident has been ordered to pay 8,000 yuan (US$960) to the
rightful owner of the fish, reports Information Times.
Li's truck accidentally ended up in Ou's pond in Xiqiao Town of Foshan on May
16 and the 1,623 kilograms of live fish on board, valued more than 10,000 yuan
(US$1,200), escaped into the water.
Li tried to negotiate a deal with Ou to no avail.
And before Li could obtain a court order to retrieve his property, Ou netted
the fish and sold them.
The Nanhai District People's Court has ordered Ou to give 8,000 yuan of the
money from the sale to Li, leaving him with some 2,000 yuan (US$240) to
compensate for the damage to his pond.
