Egg-sactly the right egg ( 2003-09-15 17:01) (China Daily) Eggs stamped with ID numbers
recently became available at Beijing's supermarkets, Beijing Morning Post
reports.
According to the producer, each egg is printed with a series of numbers in a
kind of edible dye, employing a digital authentication technology similar to
that used in ID cards.
The measure is meant to ensure buyers in the capital city of the product's
quality.
The numbers, which include the time and location of production, are difficult
to forge.
With the stamp, grocery stores and other buyers can check a great deal of
information about the egg and even trace it back to the hen that laid
it.
