A 27-year-old man has been arrested by police after admitting to killing his 80-year-old grandfather, Shanghai Evening Post reports.

Yun Jingge was sent from Gansu Province to live with his grandparents in Shanghai 11 years ago, at which time he tried to enter a local senior high school.

After he failed to be accepted that year, his grandparents refused to let him have another try. Although Yun looked after the old couple, they regarded him as a burden, he said.

In 1996, his grandmother had to be hospitalized. Yun was made to serve at her sickbed the entire time, forcing him to give up his plans to better himself.

He became addicted to alcohol and decided his family had not been fair to him. He was not even invited to his grandfather's 80th birthday celebration in June, much to his annoyance.

An increasingly ill-tempered Yun eventually came to the conclusion that all of his misfortunes had been caused by his family and his grandfather in particular.

On August 10, Yun killed the elderly man.
