Prize-winner's legal action nets award ( 2003-09-10 12:28) (China Daily)
A man who won 55 first prizes with a liquor purchase has at last won a
considerable portion of the promised awards from the organizer through legal
action, reports Beijing Youth Daily.
A Xiadu Shunxiang Trade Centre television advertisement on June 14 announced
that anyone who bought three bottles of Luzhou Laogao would have a chance to win
a prize.
The three first prizes were worth 1,980 yuan (US$240) each and additional
lesser monetary prizes could also be won, according to the ad.
When Zhang Junyi, the plaintiff, found himself winning 55 first prizes and
five fifth prizes after purchasing 120 bottles of the liquor, the organizer
refused to pay him the 109,000 yuan (US$13,000) he claimed, saying the extra
first prize tickets had been printed by mistake.
But the court ruled on Monday that the defendant should pay Zhang 28,650 yuan
(US$3,450) for the prizes he won as advertised to settle the
dispute.
