Midnight flights may resume
( 2003-09-05 10:05) (Shenzhen Daily)

MIDNIGHT flights on the Chinese mainland might resume before the National Day holiday, the Chengdu based Huaxi Metropolitan News reported Thursday, quoting a senior official of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The capital airport in Beijing had applied to the CAAC for round-the-clock operations, said the paper. If the application was approved, other airports on the Chinese mainland might follow suit.

The CAAC now forbids planes from landing and taking off after midnight and before dawn. The midnight flights were canceled because of possible danger.

The paper expected the midnight flights, dubbed ˇ°red eye flightsˇ± because pilots for the flights work with eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep, would reappear before the coming National Day holiday.
