Passport service via telephone ( 2003-09-03 15:59) (China Daily)
Residents in eight Guangdong cities can now apply for nine kinds of passports
and visas over the phone in a service that started this month, reports Guangzhou
Daily.
The service, jointly launched by the police and telecom companies, is now
available in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan
and Jiangmen. By placing calls to the "96897" and "12580" hotlines for China
Telelcom (Guangdong) and China Mobile (Guangdong), respectively, residents can
obtain "filing numbers" after supplying basic information to the operators.
When the applicants go to their local police exit and entry administration
department at the appointed time, all they have to do is tell the officers their
filing numbers, and an application form will be printed out for them to
sign.
