Beijingers obstruct official duties ( 2003-09-02 10:43) (China Daily)
Most of the culprits involved in duty obstruction cases in the Dongcheng
District over the last three years were "overbearing" native Beijingers, reports
Beijing Evening News.
In the 23 cases handled by the Dongcheng District People's Court, 19 of the
24 people accused of attacking traffic police or urban management officers while
they were on duty were Beijingers, accounting for some 79 per cent of
assailants.
Some of the accused were overbearing and openly hostile towards the officers.
Judges conjectured that difficult living conditions and other pressures led to
the perpetrators acting out.
