Sun Jihai-Seaman mix up sends Arsenal top ( 2003-09-01 15:41) (www.manchesteronline.co.uk)
Manchester City surrendered their unbeaten record but not without the bravest of fights against Arsenal. For long spells, the battling Blues were the better side and fully deserved their half time lead, even if it was earned in somewhat bizarre fashion. Cameroon international Lauren put through his own net after 10 minutes to give City hope of a first win against the Gunners in a dozen years. There seemed little danger when Trevor Sinclair chased the defender into the box but he obligingly prodded past a startled Jens Lehmann.
Slick where they had been sluggish, Arsenal were a different proposition after the break and drew level in the 47th minute when Sylvain Wiltord scored from close range. Freddie Ljungberg then put the Gunners in front after 72 minutes after a mix up between David Seaman and Sun Jihai. Anelka and Antoine Sibierski were both denied as City fought to the death in a defeat which will not have discouraged supporters, who reckon they are in for a good season.
