Shanghai residents can now drink water from Qiandaohu Lake in Zhejiang Province via five channels flowing into the city, Shanghai Youth Daily reports.

The channels will also pass through Hangzhou and Jiaxing, where citizens may have access to the water as well.

Officials said Chun'an County in Zhejiang Province will also benefit from the diversion.

The lake is 100 times larger than the famous West Lake in capacity, and the water quality is officially rated as first-class.
