Heavy fines for supping on snakes ( 2003-08-28 15:18) (China Daily)
Anyone caught eating snake in Changsha, Hunan Province will incur a fine of
up to 10 times the price of the dish, reports Oriental News.
Snake is popular cuisine in Changsha. But as raising snakes is difficult,
restaurants usually get their snakes illegally by capturing them in the wild or
buying them from poachers.
Not only will those restaurants that sell snake dishes be held responsible,
but diners will also face punishment, said the provincial forestry
authority.
