Officers of the Nanhu Police Station in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, have bought a batch of wrist supporters to protect arrested suspects from being bruised by handcuffs, reports Xinhua.

The latest handcuffs are comparatively smaller than their predecessors and often leave red marks and bruises on a suspect's wrists.

Putting a pair of soft fabric wrist supporters on first should prevent such injuries from occurring, said station chief Wu Fengqin.

"We have noticed much less hostility from suspects when we do this," he said. "They realize we respect their dignity and feelings."
