Moonlighting teachers trade in students ( 2003-08-27 14:57) (China Daily)
Some junior middle school teachers in Liaoning Province are said to be
"selling" students to vocational schools for kickbacks, reports Xinhua.
During July and August every year, some vocational schools in Shenyang,
Huludao and Jinzhou instruct their teachers to meet and deal with middle school
headmasters and teachers.
If a middle school teacher successfully convinces a graduate to enrol at the
vocational school, they are rewarded accordingly.
Kickbacks range from 100 to 1,000 yuan (US$12-120), an insider said.
Vocational schools are no longer as popular as they used to be, so they have
turned to paying off teachers to improve enrolment numbers.
