Visitors' touch ruins waxworks ( 2003-08-27 14:45) (China Daily)
About a third of the waxworks on display at the Shanghai Municipal History
Museum have been destroyed by visitors, Shanghai Youth Daily reports.
Many museum patrons have touched the wax figures, each of which costs at
least 800,000 yuan (US$96,700) to create.
And repairs are costly, said the museum.
Some of the exhibits have been removed from public view for fear of further
damage.
The museum's displays depict Shanghai's development from the late Qing
Dynasty (1644-1911) into the early 1920s.
