Social workers to help drug addicts ( 2003-08-27 14:45) (China Daily)
Communities in Shanghai have begun to employ social workers to help drug
addicts, making sure they undergo regular health checks and working to eradicate
public discrimination against them, according to Shanghai Youth Daily.
About 300 vacancies throughout the city still need to be filled. But in the
Pudong District alone, 100 people have applied for the positions.
While the average salary is not high, about 1,500 to 2,000 yuan (US$180-240)
per month, for bachelor degree holders, experts said the rewards of building
happier, healthier communities in Shanghai were ultimately satisfying.
More locals have become interested in social work over time, they
added.
